It’s that time of year again, Halloween, and though every year I look forward to this happening holiday and start planning my costume far in advance, this year I was excited for another reason – the 25th annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade in Tompkins Square Park. Now, everyone knows how much I love pups, and when I heard our canine counterparts were going to be strutting their stuff in character, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to check out this popular pooch parade!
As I arrived at the corner of 10th Street and Avenue B in the East Village, I was greeted by thousands of people and even better, hundreds of gorgeous pups in get-ups. I saw everything from superheroes, to a unicorn, a chef, a Rastafarian, and even Caitlyn Jenner! One collection of canines even came as the entire cast of the Flintstones! How awesome is that?
As they sniffed and strutted, the happy gathering of hounds was quite the party! Owners and parade goers, mingled, taking pictures and celebrating their four legged furry friends on a beautiful October afternoon. This light hearted, fun event is a great way for us humans to socialize, just like our beloved pets. And for those who don’t have pets, like myself, it’s a great opportunity to get your dog fix in! I can’t wait for next year!
