A Star is Born – Nikki Takes New York Turns Two

In my first NYC apartment the day I signed my lease

Two years ago, in March 2015, I was new to the city only having lived here three months. I was exploring the city left and right, day and night. There was not a minute of my day or a day of my week that I wasn’t doing something fun and fabulous.

Between restaurants & bars, events & activities, museums and everything in between, I was living the New York City dream. Friends and family were following along through social media posts and loving every minute of it, and then it dawned on me…

I can be the real life Carrie Bradshaw (except the Cuban version)!

Looking over Manhattan, I feel blessed to call this place home!

I wanted to turn my love for the great city of Gotham into something more personal, permanent and of course pretty…just like Carrie’s column. I decided to document my journey through a journal, my personal journal, my blog.

At first I had to understand and figure out what it would reflect. Would it be a culinary tour? A diary of dates? Would it be an ode to the fashion and NYC street scene? Would it be a guide on things to do and what to see? But after much thought, I figured I wanted it to be all of the above. I decided I wanted it to be an informative, raw and real life account of all the amazing (and some not so amazing) things I was encountering.

One of my favorite things to do is find street art throughout the city!
City of dreams is a mural that perfectly describes life in the Big Apple

It was going to give my readers inside access to my daily life in the city of my dreams – the Big Apple!

With this theme in mind, I struggled coming up with a name because it had to be perfect. I sat for hours combining words, names, places and all sorts of odd results came up. But finally, after much trial and error, Nikki Takes New York was born and the rest is history.

The Jazz Age Lawn festival is one of my favorite events of the year

From my first post, It’s Been Waiting For You, introducing myself to the New York community, to my most recent post, The Panda Princess Heads to the Panda Ball, I can’t begin to tell you how amazing my time in New York has been in these 27 months. Sure, there have been trials and tribulations, bad dates, missed subways and even a scary incident with a fellow (unnecessarily angry) New Yorker, but all in all, life has been a dream.

At the end of the “A” subway line is a whimsical, fun place to engage in some youthful behaviors…a great day trip!
Just a few hours by car or bus, is the Hamptons, a string of sleepy beach towns (not during the summer of course) that provide a nice escape from city life!

I want to thank all of you who have supported my project from day one – from those who read and shared my blog, follow me on Instagram and Twitter and even those random fans I’ve met skipping through this city, I am ever so grateful and can’t wait to see what the future holds.

Many don’t know, but the MET has a gorgeous outdoor rooftop that provides stunning views of the park and the city’s skyline!

I still have the same burning curiosity (some may call it FOMO – Fear of Missing Out) and desire to explore this city until I can’t anymore. Whether uptown, downtown or out of town, there are no shortages of amazing things to do, see and eat in the City That Never Sleeps. And because of my everlasting love for all things New York City, I will continue to bring you fun, creative and fabulous content to help make your Big Apple experience as fabulous as you can possibly imagine.
